Tributes to soldier killed while rock climbing

TRIBUTES have been paid to a soldier from Tidworth who died after falling while rock climbing in Dorset.
Staff sergeant Christopher Martin, 32, who served with 6 Battalion the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, fell about 40ft from Dancing Ledge near Swanage on August 23.
He was airlifted to hospital but died from his injuries shortly afterwards.
A spokesman for the Royal Army Physical Training Corps, where Staff Sgt Martin was a physical training instructor, said: "Chris died following a pursuit that he loved.
"He was an exemplary instructor, an extraordinary man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him."
Staff Sgt Martin, from Winsford in Cheshire, joined the army in 1997 was on a period of leave following a two month detachment in Canada.
He joined the army in 1997.
He was an experienced climber and was with his girlfriend when he fell.
An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned at Dorchester Coroner's Court.
