Father raises £1,300 for Help for Heroes

THE father of a soldier who cheated death in Afghanistan last year has raised more than £1,300 for Help for Heroes with a charity clay pigeon shoot. Martin Docking hosted the event at The Piggery, West Grimstead, on August 19.

Mr Docking’s 18-year-old son Sam was serving with 1 Rifles in Helmand Province last year as one of a group of soldiers on foot patrol when they stepped on an improvised explosive device that failed to go off.

Scores of people went along to the event including the British Army Clay Team, who were markers and umpires, and there was also event photography, a Help for Heroes stall, a hog roast and a raffle.

Mr Docking said: “The clay shoot raised £1,382.72 for Tedworth House rehabilitation centre. Many thanks to all who made this a very special and great success.”

He has also been growing a beard over the past few months in preparation for a charity shave event being held at the Duck Inn, Laverstock on Saturday. There will also be a barbecue, raffle and live music.
