Chance to learn first aid skills

VITAL life-saving skills will be demonstrated through a campaign being run by St John Ambulance.

The charity is holding its annual Save a Life September campaign and will be offering free demonstrations across Wiltshire.

St John volunteers will be outside Waitrose in Salisbury on September 22 from 10am to 4pm when people will be able to learn how to save a life using five easy to follow techniques, and will receive a free pocket-sized first aid guide to carry in case of emergency.

Research carried out by St John shows that about 150,000 people a year in England and Wales die in situations where first aid could have given them the chance to survive, while about 58 per cent of people wouldn’t know what to do if faced by a medical emergency.

Robert Bruce, county executive officer for Wiltshire St John Ambulance, said: “Learning first aid is one of the single most important things you can do in your life. You never know when you may need it – at work, at home, in school, playing sport – and what could be more important than saving someone’s life?”
