Maltings consultation starts
10:39am Monday 10th September 2012 in News By Hannah White
THE developer chosen to regenerate the Maltings and central car park in Salisbury has begun its consultation process.
Wiltshire Council chose Stanhope Plc following a three stage process carried out by global real estate adviser, DTZ, on behalf of the council and Salisbury Vision, which started in April last year.
Kate Bourne, on behalf of Stanhope, said at a meeting of the Salisbury Area Board on Thursday: “We want to consult on a number of different issues - the site is complex and it will be complex moving forward in Salisbury. There is a strong local appetite for consultation and we need everybody’s input.”
Stanhope is at the early master plan stage and has already started talks with a number of different people in the community to help shape its plans.
Ms Bourne said: “We are a committed developer and want to be open and honest right from the outset. What we want from people is feedback, whether that’s good, bad or indifferent. We want everybody to shape our plans.”
The developer aims to reach as many people in Salisbury and the surrounding area as possible. Stanhope will be at the South Wiltshire Business Expo next month and then it plans to have a legal agreement with the council drawn up and signed by the end of the year.
It aims to hold its first exhibition in Salisbury at the end of this year or the beginning of next year to showcase its plans, followed by a second exhibition next summer or autumn.
Work is expected to begin on the site in early 2014. Ms Bourne said: “We will keep people updated throughout the process and we welcome thoughts and feedback. We realise it’s everybody’s Salisbury, it’s you guys that spend the time here and we want to make Salisbury a really vibrant place to live.”

All those people were shopping or eating out in town.
I doubt if they'll come if they can't park so handily.
Park and ride is ok but not much good on Sundays when it doesn't run and not very good when laden with shopping, push chair etc.A car nearby is much better;as in the big stores along the Southampton Road.
Planners should give people what they need. Not what they(the planners) think they should have.
(I bicycle and recycle so I am fairly(realistically
?) green.)
