Young people help shape services

GROUPS helping young people shape the future of local services are to be rolled out across the county by the end of next month.

Youth Advisory Groups (YAGs), linked to Wiltshire Council ’s area boards, were trialled in Salisbury and in the Mere and Tisbury area at the beginning of the year.

They will help plan local services, making sure young people know what is available, and sharing ideas with people in other parts of the county.

Each group’s chairman must be under 25 and more than half of a group’s members will be under 19. The groups will be coordinated by staff from the.

At a meeting of the Salisbury Area Board on Thursday evening, the Youth Advisory Group expressed a need for more affordable dance opportunities for young people in the area and improvements to the skate park.

They also put forward concerns about difficulties faced by disabled people getting around in the city, and the fact that there is just one public disabled toilet in the city centre.
