Christmas market on track for success
10:30am Wednesday 12th September 2012 in News By Elizabeth Kemble
SALISBURY’S first Christmas market looks set to be a success as all the chalet-style stalls for the 18-day event have sold out.
The market will see a wide range of local, national and international producers offering treats including mulled wine, German bratwurst, gingerbread and hand-made gifts.
Stephanie Swann, who is organising the event on behalf of Salisbury City Centre Management said: “I am pleased to say that we have found a really inspiring mix of top quality exhibitors who are among some of the best in this country, with many from our local area.
“In addition to this, we have also had lots of applications from artists and designer craftspeople, and even three craft galleries in the area, so we shall really have some gorgeous chalets for this first event. “One local group of nine artisans have got together especially for the Christmas market and will be combining their various talents, and sharing one chalet.”
Local businesses involved include Truly Scrumptious Treats, Reeve the Baker, The Strawberry Fox, Fisherton Mill and Timber Treasures. Ms Swann said that around 70 per cent of the goods on sale will have been designed and made in Britain.
She said: “I have always wanted to organise an all British Christmas Market and this year we are very close indeed to that. “We shall have all the atmosphere of a German Christmas market while at the same time supporting our own economy.”
The market, which opens on November 29, will include 56 chalets and a number of special events with the Salisbury Plain Military Wives Choir, the Shrewton Silver Band and the Bourne Valley Singers among some of the performances.
