Traffic reduced on Southampton Road

SURVEYS carried out by the Salisbury Transport Management Organisation (SALTMO) have shown a marked reduction in local employees driving to work.

The group says more people are now walking, cycling and using buses in order to save money, avoid traffic and do their bit to improve local air quality and keep fit.

SALTMO is now encouraging shoppers to follow suit, and to consider different travel options.

It’s now free to use the 505 bus to get to Southampton Road every Saturday from the city.

More information about travel options is available at saltmo.com .

If there is less traffic, perhaps they could explain why the queue to get into Salisbury on the Southampton Road nearly always extends back to Petersfinger?

An alternative way of looking at the figures is that less people are coming to Salisbury.
My personal best 'waiting in traffic jam time' for the A36 Southampton rd to Salisbury was 90 minutes. can anyone beat that ?
(to be fair there was an accident, again)

I've often wondered about these surveys.I'm incredulous at the findings of this one.
It's still bad trying to get in/out of the city on S'hampton road.

I think somewhere like Hongkong/Tokyo would have put a cantilevered road(not disturbing an SSSI) across the water meadows years ago and saved years of misery.

Hillyanne - have you ever been to Tokyo - they have some of the worst traffic problems in the world. yes they have lots of fly overs and clever road systems, but during the day you get lots of time to admire them as you sit on them in a traffic queue for A LOT of the time!

If the redevelopment on the Southampton Rd goes ahead perhaps the council can put a few Japanese styled features alongside the carriageway. It will give us all something to do while we wait in endless traffic jams. A koi pond? A gravel garden? Temple?
