POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a sexual assault in Salisbury.

The incident occurred at about 3.30am on Sunday, September 2, when two local women, aged 19 and 35, were talking to a couple on the corner of Queen Street, outside the QS store.

A man came up behind the 19-year-old and touched her inappropriately before the woman pulled away.

There was an altercation between the women and the suspect and four or five of his friends, which continued down Queen Street and into Winchester Street.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to as a potential witness.

A 19-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of sexual touching and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

“I would particularly like to hear from the man and woman who were talking to the victim and her friend shortly before the incident. The man is described as white, aged 40 to 50, of large build, wearing a checked shirt.
