Sign up for Tidworth 10k

HUNDREDS of runners of all ages and abilities are gearing up to take on the Tidworth 10k in aid of Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal next month.

Registration is now open for the event, which is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the hospital.

A spokesman for the hospital said: “Although there are always some fast times, the focus is on fun and fundraising for Stars Appeal projects that mean a lot to the runners and their families.”

Among those taking part will be soldier Captain Robin, from Salisbury, who was injured in Afghanistan and subsequently treated at the hospital.

He said: “They have been excellent at looking after me and helping with my recovery. “I have lived in Salisbury since I was 10, and I am fortunate to have such specialist care where I am from. I am looking forward to giving something back to the hospital that has helped me and will continue to help me.”

Football run Chris Maple will don a panda costume in honour of Salisbury City FC, where he is an active member of the supporters’ club.

He is a past chairman of the supporters’ club and has taken his turn in wearing the costume of mascot Chalkie the Panda on match days.

He said: “The supporters’ club has previously raised money for the Stars Appeal with the City Belles Calendar. I wanted to do something myself, I enjoy trying to keep fit and had considered entering the Tidworth 10k. So, in what can only be described a crazy moment, I thought why not make it more challenging and run the course dressed as Chalkie?”

“Stars Appeal is a fantastic charity that raises money which directly benefits all the community of Salisbury City, now and in the future. Being Salisbury born and bred I am pleased to be able to help contribute to their important fundraising.”

The Stars Appeal Tidworth 10k/3k fun run takes place on Sunday, November 4 at Tedworth House. To join the run register online at tidworth10k.co.uk . Registration closes on October 30.
