A SALISBURY electrician is flying to Africa to volunteer his services for charity.
Nigel Harrison put himself forward to assist Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) after hearing fires at its Chad programme had been caused by electrical faults.
The former avionic engineer, who trained as an electrician ten years ago, is undertaking repairs in the aircraft hangar and staff accommodation, to help keep the base operational.
Although MAF is funding the trip, Mr Harrison and his wife Joy, hope raise £1,500 in sponsorship to make the trip cost free for the charity.
“The fundraising has been going well,” he said. “People have been very generous.
“Neighbours, friends, relatives and members of various churches have all contributed.”
MAF transports vital aid to more than 2,500 isolated communities spread across 30 developing nations, to whom flights are a lifeline not a luxury.
