TEDS hopes to re-open in time for Christmas

A BURGEONING social enterprise catering for families in Ringwood is closing in two weeks, but could re-open in new premises in time for Christmas.

The former auction house in Southampton Road has been home to TEDS toy and exchange scheme on a temporary basis since March.

But now Dana Elsworth, founder of TEDS, has been given notice to leave the premises by October 26.

She will be closing on October 20 to give her enough time to pack up the thousands of used toys, games, prams, nursery items and clothes that have been recycled for families over the last two years.

However, Mrs Elsworth has submitted a planning application to New Forest District Council to use a unit on Carvers Industrial Estate for storage, distribution and sales, with a decision due to be made next month.

Mrs Elsworth said: “Our enterprise is unique and people travel to come and see us. It is amazing how we have taken off. We not only have a retail area, but we also offer a free tea room and play area for children in a safe environment.

“Now our future is in the hands of the planners who will decide our fate. The plan is for a nine offices and a warehouse area, which would give us the scope to provide the meeting areas, a small soft play and room for all of our stock.

“Until then we shall have to put all of our items into storage and then, if the planners approve our application, we can crack on with cleaning, painting, hosing down and sorting out the new unit ready to open for Christmas.”
