Woman sexually assaulted in city centre

A WOMAN was sexually assaulted in Salisbury city centre in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Two men approached the 23-year-old local woman at the junction of Queen Street and New Canal at about 4.15am.

They engaged her in conversation asking for directions and then both men sexually assaulted her. She was not injured but was left very distressed by the incident.

Two men aged 28 and 30, from the Midlands, were arrested on suspicion of sexual touching and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Officers are also aware of another incident which occurred at about 3.15am on the same day, where a woman was approached by two men while walking along Brown Street.

A third man intervened and she walked off. Wiltshire Police would particularly like to speak to the young woman involved as she may have information which could assist the investigation. It is not yet clear if the two incidents are linked.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Amanda Warren at Salisbury CID on 101.
