National award for Salisbury Shopmobility

SALISBURY’S Shopmobility service is the best in the UK for customer care.

The Wiltshire Council-run service beat 317 other Shopmobility services across the UK to win the Tom Hillier Award for outstanding customer service.

The award is named after the founder of the National Federation of Shopmobility UK, who died in 1991. Mr Hillier’s former colleagues wanted to keep his name alive through the award, which is judged by his widow Grace.

Staff and volunteers will be presented with a shield on Monday.

Cindy Demain-Griffiths from Salisbury Shopmobility said: “We are delighted with this recognition and look forward to displaying the Hillier Shield with pride.”

Nominations for the award were invited from Shopmobility customers across the UK.

Dick Tonge, cabinet member with responsibility for transport, said: “The staff and army of volunteers carry out a great service day-in day-out and to have this national recognition is wonderful.

“Shopmobility gives so many people independence and to have friendly, helpful staff providing a good service clearly means a lot to people.”
