10:00am Friday 19th October 2012 in News By Miranda Robertson
Eight-year-old Theo Mckenzie Hayton and nine-year old Tanesha Bannerman Williams of Shake Dance School compete in Germany.
TEN dancers from Ringwood dance group Shake have just returned from the IDO World Hip Hop Championships in Bochum, Germany with two second place medals.
The six-day event attracted more than 4,000 of the best street dancers from around the world.
The dancers from Shake qualified to take part at the All England Finals in May at the O2 in London.
The youngest dancers to qualify were eight-year-old Theo Mckenzie Hayton from Verwood and nine-year-old Tanesha Bannerman Williams from Ringwood, who are ranked as the number one child duo in England in the street dance style Electric Boogie.
At the World Championships they took on more than 30 other top duos from around the world, and came second.
Shake owner Rachel King said: “It has already been a successful year for the pair with Theo performing on Diversity's UK Tour and Tanesha filming for the new streetdance movie All Stars, the follow up to the hugely popular Streetdance 3D.
“The day after the duos competition Theo had amazing success in his solo competition, achieving another second place position, defeating over 45 other dancers, many of whom were several years older than him.”
On the same day Shake won another medal when duo Isaac Farmer, 14, from Ringwood, and Jack Manley, 15, from Verwood came seventh in the Under 16 Electric Boogie Final.
Shake also entered the adult group category after being ranked in the top position at the All England Finals.
Alisha Blake, Becky Tunpe, Brittany Davies, all 16, Sammie Ngwenya, 17, Jazz Gritt, 18 and Elliot Plate, 19, who are all from the Ringwood and St Ives area, have been training for several months to compete in the toughest category in the championships, but narrowly missed out on the final.
The school now has a squad of 40, all hoping to achieve top ranking at the England finals in order for them to attend the 2013 World Championships in Denmark.
Miss King added: “I am really proud of all the dancers – they have worked incredibly hard to achieve these results.
“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported Shake.”
Shake hold classes for all levels in Ringwood, with its youngest member being just three years old. Complete beginners are welcome.
