Mayor opens school garden
12:00pm Monday 22nd October 2012 in News By Karen Bate
The new garden at Western Downland Primary School, Rockbourne, is opened by the mayor of Fordingbridge Malcolm Connolly.
DIGNITARIES, staff, parents and pupils at Western Downland Primary School celebrated the opening of their new garden on Friday.
Mayor of Fordingbridge Malcolm Connolly officially opened the Ludus garden while Rev Les Player carried out a dedication.
Headteacher Kim Wilcox said: “Despite the rain, many parents, children and members of the community attended the grand opening of the Ludus garden at Western Downland Primary School.
“This amazing project is the result of two years’ hard work by the school’s Friends, spearheaded by Helen Green.
“The children were involved at all stages of the project, from initial designs to making the mosaic tables with artist Joanna Dewfall. The project came out of a wish from the children to have a quiet shaded outside area in which to sit and relax at break times. Teachers are also using the area for outdoor lessons and assemblies.”
Pupil Ted Wright chose the name Ludus, which means school or place of playing games, sport or training, in Latin.
