A CHARITY golf day raised more than £3,000 for a Salisbury charity.

More than 60 people took part in the event at Rushmore Golf Club for the John McNeill Opportunity Centre in Odstock, which provides care and therapy for pre-school age children with special needs.

Organiser Donna Strand said: “We’re really overwhelmed, people have been so generous. This is the first time we have held this event and we didn’t have much time to organise everything. To get more than 60 people coming to play is fantastic and the amount raised is beyond anything we expected.”

The event was held to help the John McNeill Opportunity Centre because its funding was cut quite heavily and it was such a success that they are already planning another for 2012. Mrs Strand was helped by Rushmore charity stalwart Roger Aplin.

The competition was won by James Wardle, Robert Marshall, Terry Shepherd and Gary Coward, from Tisbury.
