A TIDWORTH soldier will play alongside some of the world’s greatest rugby players at a special charity match next month.

The Heroes Rugby Challenge will be held at Twickenham Stadium on December 3 to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Cpl Ceri Cummings, 25, who is in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and plays full-back for Basingstoke RFC, will be lining up alongside Rugby World Cup winner Josh Lewsey, former England lock Danny Grewcock, Scottish legend Kenny Logan and ex-French flanker Serge Betsen.

He has been part of the winning team in the Armed Forces World Cup this year, the Rugby League World Cup in 2008 and the Army vs. Navy match at Twickenham twice.

He will join five other servicemen selected from the RAF, the Royal Navy and the British Army to represent the northern hemisphere XV, managed by rugby legends Lawrence Dallaglio, Jason Leonard and Ieuan Evans.

Cpl Cummings said: “It’s a dream come true to be asked to play at Twickenham with some of the greatest rugby players of all time. It’s going to massive physical and mental test for me but one I’m very much looking forward to. But what makes this experience all the more special is that I will be helping raise money for my fellow servicemen and women who have been injured in the line of duty.”

The inaugural match was in 2008, when over 52,000 spectators helped raise £1.46million for the charity, and they are hoping to raise more than £1million again this year.

The match kicks off at 4.30pm and tickets start at £30 for adults and £10 for under 16s from ticketmaster.co.uk or by calling 0844 847 2492.
