ON Thursday, March 27, Dinton Historical Society’s annual meeting will be held at the village hall at 7.30pm.

The annual reports for the year will be presented, and the officers and committee will be elected for 2014.

Following the annual meeting, we will hear how Australia and Canada came to acquire early links with Dinton.

In her talk, The Wandering Wyndhams of Dinton: George’s Vineyard in Australia and Alfred’s Cattle Ranch in Canada, Lucille Campey will describe the Dalwood vineyards established by George Wyndham in New South Wales Australia, and the Dinton cattle ranch and village founded by Alfred Wyndham near Calgary, Alberta.

Why did George and Alfred leave the comforts of Wiltshire for a risky and troublesome life in what were then great wildernesses? Were they successful pioneers? How were they regarded?

These and other questions will be answered in this investigation of the wandering Wyndhams at the next meeting.

Refreshments will be provided, and copies of the society’s eight publications will be available for purchase. All are welcome: free to members, £2.50 for non-members.
