MAKING her third visit to Fovant WI, Ros Liddington gave a very interesting and informative talk on Florence Nightingale and her links to Wilton House.

With her usual enthusiasm and humour and with the aid of vast journals and newspapers from the day, Ros took us through Florence's comfortable, early years in Hampshire, her determination to become a nurse and how, eventually, through her long standing friendship with Sidney Herbert (youngest son of the 11th Earl of Pembroke) attained a contract to take a team of her trained nurses to the Crimea and consequently became immortalised as The Lady with the Lamp.

She went on to become the founder of modern nursing and remained friends with Herbert and his wife Elizabeth all her life. Their many letters are catalogued at Wilton House.

The next meeting is on the April 10 at 7.30pm in the village hall.

The speaker will be Jay Patel, an image consultant who will demonstrate to members and their guests the importance of first impressions.

Refreshments will be served and there will be a raffle for the Help the Heroes charity. Come along and enjoy the evening.
