OUR chairman Jenny Mawer welcomed members, and the chairman of Spire U3A, to our annual meeting.

Jenny was able to report on a very successful and interesting year.

We now have a membership of 383, and organise 70 groups ranging from language groups, to art, craft and needlework, theatre, film appreciation, science, bridge, book, family history, Mah Jong, walking groups, fine dining, and many more.

There are also groups we arrange jointly with the other Salisbury U3As.

A new venture is an outreach project in which two groups (games and current affairs) meet at Salisbury Manor Home, and residents there are welcome to join the groups.

Our shared learning project with Salisbury Museum has come to a successful conclusion but several members have volunteered to help at the museum in various capacities.

We have a new and lively website which members are enjoying, and where, for example, details of the next planned visits will be advertised.

These include the Tyntesfield and Herschel Museum in April, and Hidden London and the Regent’s Canal in May.

The treasurer’s report showed our finances in a healthy state; our thanks to Maureen Pardy.

We held the committee election and Gordon Pardy was elected chairman for the next two years. The meeting continued with an interestingly entitled talk, Incorrect Political Correctness. This was followed by a very enjoyable group leaders’ lunch.

The wine was expertly served by Peter and Joan Tee.

The tasty food was provided by Marilyn Beattie, Marilyn and Les Howard, and Maureen Moore.
