THE years slipped away and the audience was transported back to the swinging sixties by Caroline MacDonald-Haig as she talked about her time working for Terence Conran when he opened his first Habitat shop in London.
She was employed copywriting and editing the Habitat catalogue, which helped to spread the word of a new ‘classic lifestyle’.
Conran revolutionised British retailing with his vibrant use of colour and a quirky take on contemporary design by collaborating with some of the best designers, art directors and photographers in the UK. There was no doubt that Conran’s vision and determination changed the way we lived then, and the way we live now.
The next lecture, which follows the annual meeting on April 8, will be by Oliver Everett and is entitled The Drama Behind the Taj Mahal: Mughal Painting at its Zenith and the Life and Times of the Indian Emperor Shah Jahan.
The lecture will be held at St Francis Church, Castle Road, Salisbury. Guests are very welcome to attend.
The meeting will start at 1.45pm.
