THE March meeting of the Breakaway Club was held in the memorial centre.

There was a good attendance to hear Mandy Flynn talking about her animal sculptures as many members had already seen and admired samples of her work at the King's Head in the village.

The sculptures are made from sheets of chicken wire, which is a by-product of her partner's thatching business.

The wire is layered, folded, hooked, hammered and painted to form life-like representations of all sorts of animals and birds using a technique which Mandy has developed herself and which she demonstrated to her audience.

A short business meeting followed.

Ann Craik, for the craft group, asked that any final donations of knitted squares be sent to her by the next meeting. She will then be making items for the homemade/homegrown sale which takes place on August 9 in the memorial centre.

Sue King gave details of the visit in July to Sarah's Stamp Shack and also invitations to two other functions.

The next meeting will be held in the Cowesfield room at the memorial centre on April 16, at 2pm, when the talk will be about the Bobby Van Trust.

Visitors are always welcome.
