AS it approaches the end of its 16th year, Childrens Chance is pleased to report some of its activities. Most recently the charity hosted one of the first recitals at Arundells, the former home of the late Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath, since permission was granted for the house to hold public events.

Distinguished international soloist Philip Lange delighted a full house of about 40 invited guests with an inspired programme ranging from Scarlatti to Schubert. Playing entirely from memory, Philip Lange’s impressive performance brought Sir Edward’s Steinway to life with a mastery that was a privilege to hear.

This was the third appearance by Philip Lange for the charity, and the trustees thank him for his generosity.

The event raised in excess of £1,000. Coming up on Saturday, May 3 is a coffee morning at St Thomas’s Church – visitors are invited to come along anytime between 9.30am and noon for a delicious range of homemade cakes.

Finally, young people aged 16 to 18 are reminded to submit their applications for the annual £1,000 Bobbie Chettleburgh Grant. Full details of this and all Children’s Chance activities can be seen at childrenschance.co.uk.

The trustees thank everybody for their support in helping children and young people in the area to have recreational opportunities they could not otherwise enjoy.
