IN April we at the Salisbury branch of the Guild of Embroiderers had three interesting workshops; during one evening we made some lovely silk 'paper' and during a day workshop we were introduced to stump work. In our afternoon meeting we learnt some stitches that were used to produce beautiful Ottoman embroideries.
It was all made easier by being able to see and handle examples of this work generously brought along for us to see by one of our members, Marianne Ellis.
In May we look forward to something a little different.
At our afternoon meeting we will hear about the initiative called Fine Cell Work, which helps and supports prisoners to produce wonderful work which is then sold.
In our evening meeting Anne Griffiths will tell us how she has been able to link stitch to scientific research into pain relief and Alzheimer's disease, involving lots of people on the way.
We are a friendly group of people interested in textiles, and welcome visitors.
