THE subject for the March meeting was the Wonderful World of the Honeybee. The guest speaker was Jean Frost, who gave a fascinating talk that opened our eyes to what really happens inside a beehive.

Jean also showed her audience some wonderful photographs and explained that scientists have discovered that when the honeybees return to the hive, after foraging, they perform a dance known as the “waggle”.

This dance indicates to the other bees where a good source of nectar/pollen can be found and the approximate distance from the hive.

On Saturday, May 17, the garden club will be holding its annual plant sale in the Memorial Centre at 10am. Plants in position by 9.30am, members are reminded.

On May 22, Marion Dale will speak on the History and Meaning of Plants.

Visitors are always welcome to come along.
