THE May meeting of the Downland group took place at Alderbury Village Hall on Monday, May 12.

The president, Edna Pike, welcomed everyone including Isobel Acott, who gave us news of the national centenary celebration, which will begin in 2015.

The treasurer’s report reassured members that we have had a successful year and a healthy income.

The speaker was Richard Ratcliffe who spoke about his experiences during 46 years on the stage as an actor, singer and dancer.

His charm was soon evident as he sang, moved and chatted about the many good, bad and amusing episodes during his time performing in the famous theatres of the West End.

After an hour or so of light-hearted entertainment, Mr Ratcliffe joined us all for a delicious tea.

Members were thanked for their support of the raffle and the cake stall.

We left to drive home feeling cheerful and happy after a delightful afternoon
