ST John Singers have raised more than £1,100 for two local churches.

The churches benefiting were St Lawrence Church in Stratford-sub-Castle and St Thomas's Church, Salisbury. The concert at St Lawrence included music on the theme of spring together with topical readings.

On Good Friday the choir joined with St Thomas's Church choir and cathedral soloists for a performance of Stainer's Crucifixion.

The choir's next performance is at Salisbury Cathedral on Saturday, June 21 with Salisbury Musical Society and the Salisbury Cathedral Choir, accompanied by the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra performing Bob Chilcott's Salisbury Vespers.

Tickets are available on 01722 320333.

The choir's season will end at the River Bourne Community Farm in Laverstock on Saturday, July 5 in which it will be joined by an instrumental folk group.

The choir welcomes two sopranos, Emma Clammer and Helen McFarlane and there are vacancies for two more. Call 01722 335482 or email Johnofsal@AOL.com for details.
