AT the meeting on June 11, vice-president Rosemary welcomed everyone.

A variety of flowers was displayed for the Flower of the Month competition, the winner being Janet Stock. Birthday posies were presented followed by the usual business notices which included the news that a Wiltshire Federation of WIs willow-weaving workshop is to be held in south Wiltshire.

Rosemary then delivered her report on the National Federation of WIs’ annual meeting.

The vote for this year’s resolution on increasing organ donation resulted in 5,981 for and 133 against.

Rosemary also reported that all WI groups are asked to mark the centenary next year. The centenary baton will link up all federations and there will be live streaming of the AGM which will be taking place in the Royal Albert Hall on June 14, 2015.

The afternoon’s speaker was author Jennie Sherborne, who explained how investigations into her father, George Pickering, a Spitfire test pilot who was killed while she was young, had inspired her first book, When The Clouds Roll By.

The next meeting will be on July 9 at 2.15pm at Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls Village Hall.

The speaker will be Russell Ferret on My Thirty Years in the Fire Service. Call Patricia Cousins on 01725 512508 for more information.
