MARION Wardell opened the July meeting, welcoming our visitor Stephanie before we all sang Jerusalem.

She then thanked the members who helped at the 90th birthday party and spoke of our forthcoming events.

We have a stand at the Durrington Village Show and Vintage Vehicle Gathering on Sunday, July 20 and we are also doing the teas at this event.

We have planned a garden party, a trip to Chichester and a bus ride to Bournemouth in the next few weeks.

Some of our members are meeting this week to sew squares into dog blankets for the Dogs Trust.

Our speaker was to have been from the Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service but he had to attend an emergency call out so was unable to come to us.

Luckily one of our members, Anne Owens, was kind enough to stand in at a moment’s notice.

She spoke about going on a troop ship to India with her parents in 1946. She has many memories of that time and told us some of her adventures.

We have no meeting in August as it is our trip to Chichester but we will be back in the village hall for our craft show on Tuesday, September 2.

New members are always welcome at our meetings. Just come along.
