THE last meeting of the year was held on Monday, July 14.

It was opened by Elizabeth Cutter, president, who welcomed everyone and thanked Barbara Stevens for her arrangement of beautiful summer flowers.

The business part of the meeting started with reports and news from the sub groups, and Susie Appleford announced the forthcoming events locally and in the rest of the county. Sue Amy gave final arrangements for the summer outing, which was held on Wednesday, July 16 with visits to Bristol Blue Glass factory and then on to Tynesford House.

Elizabeth then went on to thank all the members who helped at the garden party and Nunton Fete, especially the husbands, who erected the marquees and ferried crockery and tables from the village hall before the garden party. The speaker for the morning was Susan Waldren who gave a demonstration of jewellery making and then everyone was given the chance to make something for themselves.

The winner of this month’s competition for a pretty or decorative plate was Elizabeth Cutter, with her plate given to her by her newly arrived grandson with an imprint of his tiny feet. The talk for the September meeting will be A Century of Women and the WI by Lynda Warren. The meetings will resume on Monday, September 8.
