AFTER Sue Fry opened the meeting we had reports on three outings that had taken place since the last meeting in June.

Mottisfont Abbey and cream tea with Mottisfont WI was enjoyed by seven of the members, Broad Chalke sent three teams to Sarum Academy for Quizzical Pursuits, and a member and friends enjoyed an afternoon in the company of Bob Flowerdew.

We were treated to the company of two greyhounds, Mo and Henry, who came with their owner Jo Blake, from the Dogs Trust, who was our speaker for the evening.

It is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK and has 19 rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland.

At the trust’s rehoming centre in Newton Tony there are 20 acres of land with 43 kennels catering for about 70. The charity shop raises about £70,000 per year.

There will be an evening walk and supper at the Queen’s Head with Mottisfont and Dunbridge WIs on August 22, and the following day a party is going to the Mayflower at Southampton to see The Lion King.

There will be trips to Breamore House and Bletchley Park, willow weaving at Britford, and providing the bottle stall at the Flower Show and teas for the Bowerchalke Friendship Club.

The September 17 meeting will include an Indian cookery demonstration given by Surinder Punjabi from Downton.
