AT the recent Wessex Stoma Support Group annual meeting, the activity of the group was reflected upon, and new officers were elected.

Chairman Ken Edwards said: “The group has had a busy few months with a very successful Craft Fair and a trip to the Swindon Railway Museum and Shopping Complex.”

A Friday Café meeting in St Thomas’ House is to become a regular event every other month, as well as the monthly meeting already established.

The most recent meeting saw Helen Bracey from Ostomy Lifestyle give a talk on the practicalities of going on holiday with a stoma.

Mr Edwards added: “The group is still creating awareness among GPs and other medical professionals. Carers are coming across stomas more in their visits, and it is hoped that the support group can give talks to these groups about living with a stoma.”

Other officers elected at the meeting were Mike Slater as secretary, Mike Beck as treasurer, and Pam Edwards as welfare officer. Arthur Smith, Kathleen Allen, Jane Brine and Lionel Fanner are the other committee members.

The next meeting is at the Bob Blandford Scout Hall, Wilton, on Friday, September 12 at 2pm. Call 07799 863768 for details.
