TISBURY History Society is in the process of researching a book about Tisbury during the First World War.

It is planned to present a copy to each primary school child in Tisbury and will also be on sale to the public.

The project was given a helpful start by a former resident of Tisbury, Jeff Scholefield, who went on his bike or motorbike round Europe, to find the graves or memorials of those men who are commemorated on the Tisbury War Memorial.

He researched the Service Records of each man and produced a file with the information which he presented to the History Society archives.

The History Society has since been searching these archives for information and photographs about Tisbury at that time and also asking local residents if they have any Tisbury family memories or photographs.

The local primary school children are studying the First World War next term and will be asked to contribute to the book.

Tisbury History Society would be interested to hear from anyone who might have relevant information about that period and to e mail it to info@tisburyhistory.co.uk or hankjuliet@gmail.com phone 01747 871840.
