The Onward Stroke Club meets on alternate Thursday mornings in Salisbury.

Another busy term started off with a visit from Rob Buckland from Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service. At the next meeting Gary Turner brought his guitar along for a second visit and got everybody singing. The summer outing in June was a coach trip to the new Mary Rose museum in Portsmouth.

More than 40 members and guests enjoyed lunch, followed by a personal tour, accompanied by Trevor Sapey from the Mary Rose Trust.

The weather was perfect and everybody had a terrific day out.

At ‘normal’ club meetings, members have enjoyed Bob’s Bingo with his own peculiar brand of rhyming slang, and Linda’s music quiz.

A lot of fun was had when Carol devised a hilarious miming game, with two teams facing each other down the length of the hall, taking it in turns to mime various words for the other team to guess. The term finished on a high with a summer party including Pimms and nibbles, a tricky little quiz from Linda which caused groaning amongst the masses, and then musical entertainment from The Land Girls who, dressed in appropriate costume took us through a selection of songs from the two World Wars.

The action-packed autumn term starts on 4 September and more information can be found at www.theonwardclub.co.uk or contact Linda on 01980 862367.
