PRESIDENT Marion Wardell opened the meeting and, after welcoming guests, we held a minute’s silence for one of our members who had sadly died.
We all sang Jerusalem and our president then introduced Maureen Hinton, who talked to us about Traditional and Victorian Christmas flowers.
She started by showing us the many vintage Christmas items she has collected over the years. She also gave an insight into how the Victorians decorated their homes for Christmas.
She showed us how to make a tuzy muzy bunch, flowers for our table centre and a beautiful wreath for our doors.
During her talk she gave us many tips about keeping flowers, cutting flowers and propagating from the items she used.
This was followed by our treasurer giving us a good detailed report on the recent Wiltshire Federation of WIs’ annual council meeting which was held in Salisbury.
We were also reminded that we are holding our annual jumble sale in Durrington village hall on Saturday, November 15 at 2pm and we were given final arrangements for our Christmas lunch and dinner which we are looking forward to.
Our next meeting at the village hall is a social games night and is on Tuesday, January 13 at 7pm.
Visitors and new members are always welcome at our meetings.
