THE February meeting was opened with the singing of Jerusalem and the president welcomed two new members.

The meeting was well-attended, despite it being a very cold and frosty night.

Members then welcomed Frank Bryant who gave a talk entitled Lighthouse Stories.

He had worked for Trinity House and he told members about the different types of lighthouses he had lived in and gave a detailed and interesting insight into the lives of lighthouse keepers and their wives.

The rock lighthouses were often manned for two months at a time and even then the keeper may have had to stay as the seas could be too rough to allow them to go home.

It could be a very lonely working life.

Afterwards members enjoyed a cup of tea and cakes and received news of forthcoming events for the year.

The jumble sale date has been changed. It will now be held on Saturday, February 28 at 2pm in the village hall.

Plans to visit Highgrove are being discussed but are not yet finalised.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, March 3 at 7pm in the Robinson room in Durrington village Hall.

The speakers will be Richard Nash and Frogg Moody and their talk is called Haunted Salisbury. Visitors and new members are always very welcome.
