THE first Fisherton History Society meeting has been declared a great success.
The inaugural meeting was held at The Duke of York pub in Salisbury, and welcomed guest speaker John Chandler, a highly respected historian and author of the wonderful book Endless Street – A History of Salisbury and its People.
John’s presentation was entitled My Fascination with Fisherton and it certainly enlightened the members to the sleepy past and rapid development of the area. From early maps to the ever-changing history of Fisherton House Asylum, these were just a few of the subjects highlighted in this presentation.
John also proposed many interesting subjects for future research and discussion within the society. The event was a big success with a high turnout and an enthralled audience.
The Fisherton History Society is open to anyone with an interest in the history of Salisbury and, in particular, the Fisherton area. It aims to promote the study of local life and culture through a series of meetings, talks and walks. The society is free and warmly welcomes new members.
