THE speaker at the ESU meeting in February was Richard Deane, chairman of the Salisbury Conservation Advisory Panel and vice chairman of the Salisbury Civic Society.

Richard took a degree in Chinese and then developed an interest in historic buildings by joining Salisbury Cathedral workshop as a glazier before becoming a stonemason.

Richard advises Wiltshire Council on matters affecting the historic built environment in South Wiltshire.

The presentation, entitled 800 Years of History: A look at Salisbury and its Buildings included slides of Wilton House, Winchester College, Salisbury Almshouses and Lutyens houseMarsh Court in Stockbridge with Richard highlighting unique architectural features to the members.
