THE June meeting was a do-it-yourself afternoon as there was no speaker.

President Jill Bushnell welcomed members, after which the secretary, Pat Merritt, read the minutes anddealt with correspondence.

There were invitations to garden parties at Laverstock and Winterslow.

The coffee morning at the president’s home raised £90 for funds and was most enjoyable with the usual delicious cakes.

A copy of the federation calendar was circulated and orders taken.

The theme for 2014 is Water in Wiltshire, photos for which shouldn’t be too difficult to obtain given the weather so far this year.

The WI will be celebrating its centenary in 2015 and ideas for marking this auspicious occasion were put forward. These include choral and craft ideas.

The Denman College brochure is now available and there is a wide range of courses. Some of these are now open to non-members.

Lists were circulated for the Poems and Puds.

Lorna Patten and Sheila Roberts gave an account of their WI trip to Canada.

Although the weather was not good, they visited some lovely places and saw some wonderful sights, including Niagara Falls. It was a great disappointment, however, that a visit to the birthplace of the WI, the point of the trip, found the house and museum closed.

But the local WI made everyone welcome.

Although the early starts and long days made it sound more like an endurance test than a holiday, both Sheila and Lorna and the other two members of Bourne Valley who went, had a very enjoyable time.
