PHOTOGRAPHY was only in its very early stages during Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee but Maureen Brown, of Laverstock, has a picture that perfectly captures the occasion.

Her great uncle Lucien Davis was an illustrator for the Illustrated London News and he produced this picture, which hangs in her home.

In it Queen Victoria can be seen riding in her carriage surrounded by princes, princesses, politicians and members of society.

“Those days they were not able to take photographs of moving things likes carriages so my great uncle would sketch a picture of a scene and fill in the details afterwards,” said Mrs Brown.

“The detail on the dresses and hats is very impressive and he was highly regarded.”

The picture was printed in a special Diamond Jubilee edition of the Illustrated London News printed in 1897.
