Getting ready to ride
COLOUR Sergeant Jason O’Callaghan, 36, from 2 Royal Welsh at Tidworth, aims to raise more than £1,000 for the Royal United Hospital Bath’s Forever Friends appeal by taking part in the gruelling 100-mile Endura Trek Lionheart cycling challenge.
Sgt O’Callaghan, who has served in the army for 17 years, decided a few weeks ago to enter this tough race to help raise money for his chosen charity.
“The army has a really strong ethos about fitness and the training I do has certainly helped me get fit for this challenge,” said Sgt O’Callaghan.
“I do a lot of cycling and really enjoy physical training but I wanted to combine the two and raise money for a worthwhile cause.”
The Lionheart race starts and ends at Longleat House and takes cyclists through some of the most picturesque countryside in the area.
There are different medals that are awarded depending on your performance in the race. Sgt O’Callaghan is aiming high and going for gold by trying to complete the course in less than five hours and 45 minutes.
