Supporting names on memorial bid

I WOULD like to express my support for former Salisbury mayor Bobbie Chettleburgh’s proposal for the names of 47 soldiers killed in the First World War to be added to the city’s memorial by the end of 2014.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the conflict, and I believe that it would be a suitable tribute in this rather special year.

I also think that we need to look at the memorial in the Arts Centre grounds; the inscription is so weathered that only a few of the words remain readable.

In a city that prides itself on supporting the armed forces, this is the least we can do to preserve these memories for future generations.

Salisbury City Council is responsible for the memorial, and Mrs Chettleburgh plans to raise the proposal at the next full council meeting on January 20.
