ACTIVITY on the Plain will be significantly reduced in April.

From April 1 to 11: 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will train with a company of Warrior armoured vehicles on Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA) East, while 26 Engineer Regiment will conduct an armoured engineer squadron battle run from east to west, and the 3rd (UK) Division Signal Regiment will mount a divisional signals exercise using sites across the whole plain.

April 7 to 10: The Royal School of Artillery final live fire exercise Crossed Cannons, involving four courses using 105mm light guns, 155mm AS90 (artillery system of the 90s) self-propelled guns and multi-launch rocket systems, will exercise mainly at Larkhill Range.

The rest of April will see low level training and preparation for the Afghanistan pre-deployment exercise for 20 Armoured Brigade. This mission specific training will run from May 3 to 11 and involve 1,800 troops and 200 vehicles.

The range safety staff wish to remind users of the plain that Ordnance Survey Maps are updated periodically and can go out of date.

A large number of rights of way at Larkhill ranges have been realigned and a further three in West Lavington, Figheldean and South Tidworth have been diverted.

Following the legally required consultation, orders have been made and on or about March 30 the definitive map on the Wiltshire Council website will be amended. A plan of the rights of way alignments on Larkhill Ranges can be found at gov.uk/government /publications/salisbury-plain-imber-rangeperimeter-path.
