ACTIVITY on the plain will be very light until the second week in January.
2nd Royal Tank Regiment will train from January 9 until the end of the month, with Challenger 2 joined by a Warrior company from 1st Royal Regiment of Fusiliers for the last two weeks.
These two elements will take part in an attack demonstration on the Copehill Down FIBUA (fighting in built-up areas) village on January 20.
A Land Warfare Centre armoured exercise takes place in the west and centre on January 11 and 12.
On January 22, 2nd Battalion the Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment arrives on the plain for a two-week light role battle group exercise covering most of Salisbury Plain Training Area.
Preparation for the 12 Mechanised Brigade Afghanistan pre-deployment exercise starts on January 24 with the arrival of communications and logistic troops and the construction of infrastructure to support the troops in the field.
Exercise PASHTUN DAWN will take place between February 11 and March 12 and will involve 8,000 troops, more than 500 tracked and wheeled vehicles, and both fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
Imber St Giles Church is open until Monday, January 2 from 10am to 4pm except Sunday, January 1 when it opens from 11.15am.
