MORE than 100 members of 43 (Wessex) Brigade and personnel from Bulford and Tidworth garrisons took part in a spicy fundraiser when the Tidworth, Netheravon and Bulford Garrison Warrant Officers' & Sergeants' Mess, with the assistance of Aspire Defence Services Limited and their partner Sodexo Defence, hosted a World's Biggest Curry Lunch' event to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF).
The aim of the World's Biggest Curry Lunch is to invite everyone across the UK (and abroad) to host a curry lunch or dinner for family, friends and colleagues, in return for a donation, which they then send on to the ABF.
The ABF was encouraging participants to host a curry lunch during the week beginning April 21, but is happy for people to cook a curry anytime during April or afterwards.
Warrant Officer Class 1 John Porter, the Food Services Warrant Officer of Headquarters 43 (Wessex) Brigade decided to take part in the hot' fundraiser to ensure members of 43 (Wessex) Brigade in Bulford and Tidworth did what they could to support the worthwhile cause.
"I was overwhelmed by the response from their Garrison,"said John. "We have raised over £450 for the ABF which is a great total and my thanks go to all those who attended and Aspire Defence and Sodexo who gave their services free of charge."
The World's Biggest Curry Lunch event aims to raise £150,000 for the ABF, which exists to support soldiers who have served in every theatre of operation since the Second World War, including those who are risking so much in Iraq and Afghanistan today.
ABF Controller, Major General Sir Evelyn Webb-Carter said: "Curry is a traditional dish of the British Army, but this fun and unique event is something that everyone can get involved in to support our brave soldiers, who need our help now more than ever. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved and cooked up a successful event."
