Bulford Colonel awarded OBE
BULFORD Territorial Army officer, Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Price, has been made an Officer of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
For the last five years Lt Col Price, 60, has been the Joint Regional Liaison Officer based at 43 (Wessex) Brigade in Bulford, Wiltshire, responsible for co-ordinating the military reaction to any emergency or crisis that occurs in the south-west of England.
During this time he has been responsible for the military involvement in both the Boscastle 2004 and Gloucestershire floods last year. He is a key figure in the Resilience Forums that are held regularly across the south-west region and is immediately called upon if situations occur that may need military assistance.
He found out he had been awarded the honour when a senior officer congratulated him - twice - at a meeting last Friday and he did not react.
It was finally pointed out to him that it was he who had been awarded the OBE.
"I felt totally bemused at first, and then rather embarrassed on the basis that for every one person who gets an award there must be 20 other cases of people who deserve one," said Lt Col Price.
"But I am terribly proud because I am a great believer in the reward system, not just for the military, but for civilians as well."
