Laverstock Gardening Club

STUART Dennis, chairman, welcomed members to the 10th annual meeting of the Laverstock Gardening Club held recently at the village hall.

Ray Marriner advised that the club now had 80 members and the £5 subscription had not changed since the group was founded.

He announced that he would be retiring as treasurer and leaving a healthy balance for his successor.

The secretary’s report was given by Moya Hill who outlined the achievements during the past year.

The forthcoming programme has to be finalised but promises to be both informative and enjoyable.

Visitors and new members are always welcome at meetings and events.

The annual show, organised by Dawn Bell, had not had a good response from members, as the usual date had been changed to a bank holiday and the inclement weather was blamed for fewer exhibits.

Following a lengthy discussion about future shows new options would be discussed by the committee.

Stuart Dennis thanked all members of the committee for their continued hard work during the past year.

Next year will be Open Gardens and any suitable venues can be suggested.

Jo Drag was elected as treasurer and Mary Reardon replaced Val Fallon on the committee.

A special commemorative cake, made by Jill Kay, was cut by Sarah Beswick and Mary Reardon, past chairmen.

A musical extravaganza was given by Sarah Marks, who amazed the audience with her playing of the bagpipes, including the Northumbrian and Cornish pipes, with a detailed commentary on the pieces performed.
