Fun and fireworks in Mere this Sunday

A FESTIVAL full of fun and fireworks is taking place in Mere on October 28.

The team of volunteers behind Mere Fireworks Festival have been hard at work planning the second annual event following on from the success of last year.

Inspired by the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics and the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise, this year's festival has a Diamond are Forever theme.

Throughout the afternoon there will be a number of indoor and outdoor activities on offer including the chance to learn the didgeridoo with the Wrongo Bongo Band and to have a go at singing or performing in the open mic tent.

There will be football skills workshops with Mere Town Football Club, a climbing wall, a miniature steam train and hand wound merry-go-round, face painting, and tightrope walking and circus skills with Firestar Circus.

Guests will also have the opportunity to make musical instruments and lanterns in the craft hall and listen to storytelling next to the fire in the Walnut Tree Woodland Yurt.

The evening will end with a spectacular fireworks finale with shooting flames choreographed to music and fire artists performing on stage, as well as an LED lit remote controlled helicopter.

There will be food and drink on offer throughout the afternoon. The event takes place in the grounds of Mere School between 2.30pm and 6pm and tickets are available at £12 for a family ticket. For more information or to buy tickets visit merefireworksfestival.co.uk.
