Theatre looks set to gain more parking spaces

STUDIO Theatre in Ashley Road, Salisbury looks set to gain more space for cars to park after a land transfer request was approved by councillors.
The theatre applied to Wiltshire Council for the transfer of land behind it as recent development and growing audiences mean many motorists are parking in surrounding streets such as Hulse Road and Butts Terrace.
Theatre secretary and charity trustee Hugh Abel said: “The land is currently an untidy little plot crossed by an informal pathway from the rear of Butts Terrace to Waitrose and the riverside path.
“Studio Theatre would be using the land in order to reduce parking congestion in the surrounding roads and it would be able to tidy up the plot and make it less of an eyesore.”
At a Salisbury Area Board meeting on Thursday, councillors approved the land transfer. A legal notice proposing the transfer will now be published in the Journal before any objections are considered and a planning application is submitted for a change of use to the land.
