ACE reporters and photographers from Fordingbridge Junior School entered the world of journalism on Friday to create a newspaper in one week.

Journal reporter Karen Bate gave a crash course in shorthand and some handy hints on writing news stories to two classes of Year 6 pupils to help them beat the deadline.

Armed with cameras and notebooks, the pupils went out to find news stories and came back with a full newslist.

Year 6 teacher Carla Laney said: “The whole class loved this project. They were so enthusiastic and couldn’t wait to find their own news.

“Everyone took on a role and took to the job with such relish that, guided ably by their editors, the newspaper will, I am sure, come together efficiently.”

Year 6 teacher Nigel Hall added: “We applied our journalistic writing skills and worked together in editorial teams to interview sources and put together the stories.

“Bringing in speakers gives the pupils a chance to put into practice their literary skills.”
